A little while ago I removed the daybed from my office. My original intention was to use it for my afternoon siestas… but it ended up being a cat bed… important, for sure, but better use could be made of the space.
The above photo is of Pharoah in earlier days in repose on the daybed.
I replaced the bed with a work table in order to set up a studio space for taking photos of small still life objects… it was a culture shock for the felines, no doubt.
But Freddie was undeterred. What studio?
Now, this was not exactly what I had in mind. Freddie is neither small nor still.
The first photo I took with this setup, an exercise in even lighting of the subject using white boards and a reflector, came out pretty well I thought.
Until I looked at it more closely in Lightroom and saw there was cat hair clinging to the edges of the vase! I had to take it into Photoshop and clean off the fur very delicately with a tiny brush.
Obviously, we have to work on this idea!

I have that exact vase, Roslyn…minus the cat hair. 🙂 The photos of the cats are hilarious!

Thanks Jill. I believe I bought the vase at Pier One Imports back in the days when I was still buying “stuff” for the house.

All horizontal surfaces are cat beds.

The title of this post caught my eye and I had to find out more. The look on Freddie’s face while stealing your studio space is too hilarious! Despite the cat hair issues, I think your still-life is captivating.
