Feline Friday – #16 – location location location

In the real estate world we know it’s all about location, location, location… and that seems to be true in the feline world too.

I bought this cat condo (you can see there’s an entrance to it on the right hand side) a couple of years ago… even before Frankie arrived on the scene. I originally bought it for Pharoah to sit out on the front balcony where he likes to meditate in the evenings… but he sat everywhere except on this.

I moved it around the house. The top deck, bedroom, office, living room… and I tried several locations within all those places. After both Frankie and Freddie arrived I continued to move it around hoping to generate some interest. After a few begrudging attempts by Frankie… he would jump on it for a few seconds then jump off… absolutely nobody wanted to have anything to do with it.

So I put it by the front door to move it out to the garage. But a friend was coming over and I wanted to tidy up so I stuck the condo temporarily in an out of the way corner where I keep some of my art supplies.

Hey presto! That was the magic trick. That evening I decided to put it back by the front door but who was curled up in it fast asleep… that’s right… Frankie! Since then Frankie has appropriated the condo as his perch. It’s a great location as he can see everything that’s going on in the living room, dining area, entranceway, stairs and outside the front window… and he can also see when one of his pals is walking along the loft wall as they often do.

Yup, it’s all about the right location!

  1. Oh I know this! I have cat beds that are rarely used and originally had an old cat condo that looks similar to yours. Nothing. Nada. With great trepidation I bought an expensive multi level cat tower. I’ve had it at two spots and it’s been very popular with two of the cats. Another cat was swatted when she attempted to check it out and my old one won’t go to the work of climbing. All in all, I’m happy. The old one story one was given away. You just never know….

    • Happy to hear it worked out, Kate. I have a multi-level tower too. Frankie slept in it for the first few days. But once Freddie tried it out it became his… he just likes the top level. But since I started sprinkling catnip on the next level down I see Frankie sitting there sometimes.

  2. Frankie certainly looks content!

  3. Frankie is styling! I think he’s ready for an open house. 🙂

  4. What a gorgeous perch! Frankie looks like the king of the roost up there. So glad your cat condo now has a tenant. 🙂

  5. Funny how when you put it somewhere just to get it out of the way, that’s when Frankie decided you had finally found exactly the right spot. He seems purrfectly content to be keeping an eye on his world from his personal perch. It’s impossible not to love that face. 🙂
