Feline Friday – #5 – Let’s not forget our furry friends

As 2014 comes to an end and you may be thinking about making contributions to your favorite charities, don’t forget about needy animals!

As I live in LA I like to contribute to an agency that serves the local animal community. That happens to be spcaLA (Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Los Angeles).

Wherever you live, make sure you are donating to a LOCAL agency. You may see heart-rending ads from an organization (or organizations) that appear to be national but really only serve one area, such as New York. If you live in New York, go for it, but I prefer to see my money spent locally in Southern California.

On the other hand, if you prefer to support a national organization, my recommendation would be for the HSUS (Humane Society of the United States) whose efforts are spread all over the country. But better yet, do your own research!

My feline friends, Pharoah, Freddie and Frankie, all of whom were rescue/shelter cats asked me to write this post… and I must obey!

Below is the email I received from spcaLA recently:

You may not know it, but in the just the past three months, spcaLA has taken in 27% more abandoned and abused animals than at the same time last year. And, they are hungry.

Supplies of puppy, kitten, dog, and cat food are running out. Please, help by donating food or the funds with which to purchase it.

Not only does spcaLA feed our shelter pets, but we also feed Long Beach Animal Care Services animals – something spcaLA has quietly done for more than thirteen years.

After you donate, please take a minute to watch our video about the food shortage (warning: you may be overwhelmed with cuteness), and share it with your friends!

You can shop and ship right from our Amazon Wish List. Or,donations can be dropped off at spcaLA locations during business hours (we are closed to the public on Christmas and New Year’s Days).

I am an explorer and creative person. I've had many jobs, careers and interests... everything in life and the universe fascinates me. Born in Brighton, England, I've lived my entire adult life in Los Angeles, California. A few years ago I rediscovered photography which is a great excuse to get outside and look. I'm also in the process of re-writing some of my unpublished short stories and possibly a novel. .

  1. We have several local agencies I support (my cats came from those) and there are a few national ones I support that do things like help out during disasters and lobby for law changes. You are right. People should give locally first and foremost then follow their conscience. My cats applaud your cats for the public service message.

  2. Always remember our sweet companions and loves as we go through life.

  3. Very special post at this time of the year, Ros.

  4. Such a heartbreaking post, dear Roslyn ! You are very thoughtful,my friend ! I do whatever I can in my own country and I have rescued some innocents souls … Have a brilliant day 🙂

  5. It seems to be the same the world over for the poor animals who are mistreated or abandoned. I wish I could do more to help them, would have a houseful of animals if I had the money. As you say, if we all help a charity for them in our own area, we are doing something.
